When asked: “How can you make a difference in the world?”

Most people answer: I can’t, I can’t change anything, it’s too big, I have no say in world politics, I have no influence….

And I say, we ALL have influence, we can all make a change, we can all contribute to making the world a better place.

How so?

We don’t need to be president of a country, mayor of a town, spokesman of a big organization, … to have a say in what goes on in the world. We don’t need to perform “grand, heroic deeds”. No, we just need to be a good person ourselves, a person who sees and believes in the goodness of others, a person who prefers kindness and compassion over hating and judging. By living this way, you’ll radiate this goodness to all and everyone around you. It’s in living as a good person, it’s in doing what your heart tells you to do, it’s in living compassionately, in seeing the good in others that we are creating a loving environment. As The Law of Attraction** says: we attract what we send out, we encounter what vibrates on the same frequency as we are living. So, when we are living on the frequency of love and kindness, that’s what we’ll get more of. And when more and more people start living and acting in this loving, peaceful way, that’s where you can create enough momentum to make a difference in the world, that’s when change becomes possible, that’s when a shift is made, that’s when we create more love into the world… We just have to believe that no matter how ‘small’ we are, we do have the power to send love into the world. The more people who are sending out love and good intentions, the more people will get inspired to do the same, the more people who will start seeing and believing and hence, sending out love and kindness themselves. Let’s all focus on how we want our world to look like, not on all the negativity that is going around. There is so much hatred and violence on the news that, if we let ourselves be guided by that negativity, we end up believing that it’s all out of our hands and that there is more hatred than love in the world. I would like to ask you to, also be aware of all the good stuff, of all the good people, of all the love that we all have in us.

Where focus goes, energy flows.

So, make sure your energy flows towards being a loving person, towards believing there is also a lot of good in the world. This all will lead to making a better world and that is how we can all make a difference, that is how we can all make our contribution to more peace in the world, more kindness, more love.

I love this poem by Placide Gaboury* that completely represents my thoughts and beliefs on the matter:

I hereby give you my translation/interpretation in English, any incorrectness is totally of my doing:

We don’t get rid of darkness by fighting against it, but by being the light.

We don’t get rid of the bad by fighting it, but by doing good.

We don’t get rid of hatred and fear by holding on to it, but by showing tenderness and love.

It’s by going to the East that we get further away from the West.

It’s by living more that we are bigger than death.

It’s by doing what lasts that we are free from what does not.

My wish for YOU:

Believe you can make a difference,

Believe that by living, by doing good, you can change the world,

Believe that by being an example of love, you’ll inspire others to love more too,

Believe that kindness will lead to more kindness.

That is what I wish for you!
