“Until you make the unconscious conscious,

it will direct your life and you will call it fate” Carl Yung.

How can I make the unconscious conscious?

They call it UN-conscious for a reason, I hear you say.

Yes, I agree, it’s not the easiest thing to do, but it is possible.

And, it’s not only possible, but it’s absolutely necessary!

Until you know what is roaming in your subconscious mind, you’ll never know who YOU truly are, what YOU really want.

I’ve already talked about the subconscious and the conscious mind in many of my articles* as well as in my book**, because it is the core:

of understanding how your mind works,

of how you exist,

of how you are responsible for your own thinking and acting, and hence, feeling.

Everything that is present in your subconscious mind, has been installed there by what you’ve learned, by what you’ve heard, by what you’ve seen, …

Most of the times, you hardly realize what is in it and how it got there. BUT. It steers 95% of alle your actions, of all your thoughts!

You think the thoughts you’ve always thought. You act the way you’ve been taught, the way that you’ve seen the people around you act. You believe it’s meant to be that way, that it’s in your genes, that you can’t change it. But that’s where you’re wrong. You can change it by making the subconscious, conscious.

So it is of immense importance that you start looking into these archives and sort them out.

You get rid of what is of no use to you (anymore), of what is not how you want to think and act anymore.

You keep what is still useful, what is what you really stand for.

To be able to look into your subconscious mind, your archives, you have to become very, very quiet.

You have to consciously decide that you want to clear out ‘your attic’.

It’s the same principle as decluttering your house*.

Things gather in your rooms as thoughts and beliefs gather in your mind, and some things have a way of sneaking into your house/mind without you even noticing it. But then, you suddenly feel tired, feel overwhelmed, feel unhappy, and that’s your cue to start decluttering.

Declutter your mind, make space, lighten your mind.

To be able to do that, you have to practice.

Practice silence.

Practice listening to the silence.

Practice hearing what is in your heart.

Once you hear what your heart is saying, you can start looking at what is in your subconscious mind.

You’ll know what is in there by looking at how you think, at how you act.

You’ll notice behavior and thoughts that do not feel like you. They make you unhappy.

You can safely dispose of all thoughts that do not resonate with what you hear from your heart,

The more you can hear what is the real you, the better you can change your thoughts and your acts.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, the thoughts and beliefs in your ‘archives’ have been there for a very long time, so it’ll take a while before they are no longer dominating your thoughts.

But because of the fact that you are now conscious of your unconscious, you’ll recognize which of the 2 is ‘talking’. You can thank the old beliefs, whenever they pop up, for having been there, but firmly state that you do not want to act upon them anymore. You consciously steer your thoughts in the direction your heart is showing you. The longer you allow these new thoughts and beliefs to direct you, the quicker you’ll recognize the difference between old and new beliefs, and the easier you can change course.

It’s like walking a well-worn trail and now you have to create your own path. In the beginning you will always trail back to the known, obvious, path and you will have to consciously step off that trail and form a new one.

The longer you walk your own path, the easier it will be to stay on it.

But the old path will always remain there. You will always have to keep being vigilant that you are still on your own, new path.

It’s a work in progress, and a work that never ends.

It’ll get easier and it will become your new MO, but the old pattern will always try to pop up again.

Make it your life mission to get to know the real you, to make the unconscious, conscious.

Therefor build in as much silence as you can.

Sit with your hands on your heart for a couple of minutes every day.

Be patient with yourself. If you have lived a ‘loud’ life until now, with lots of distractions, lots of input, it will take a while before you can hear the silence, before you can hear your own heart speaking.

But keep it up.

Become silent.

Listen, and hear, who you really are, and what you really want.
