Fall is such a beautiful season. The colors are magnificent, even more beautiful than any artist could ever create. The trees give us their fruits, animals prepare for wintertime. Juices stop flowing or flow at a calmer pace, leaves are being shed. Nature knows it is time to let go. It also knows and trusts that all will be back next year, leaves, flowers, fruit, … as nature is a never-ending cycle of life. We too are part of nature, and yet most of us have immense difficulties with letting go.

Why?

Why are we so afraid to let go? Why can’t we trust nature, why can’t we trust that all will be okay for us too?

We are part of the Whole, we are a drop in the ocean and we have the entire ocean present in this little drop we are*, we are all connected, we are all One.

We too, live our lives in cycles, for us too, there is a time for everything, also for letting go.

Once we realize this is natural, that this is how life is supposed to be, it will become a lot easier to let go, a lot easier to be.

Observe how your life is going, recognize the cycle of things, realize this is okay, know this is the way.

You have the small cycle of day and night: of acting and resting.

You have the bigger cycles of age: being born, infant, child, teenager, young adult, adult, senior, dying.

And all the things in between.

The more we realize this is who we are, this is how nature functions, the easier it is to let go, the easier it is to accept the next phase in life.

Things come and go, jobs come and go, people come and go.

Does this mean they are not important? Does this mean we should not engage fully in life?

No! Not at all! It means enjoy every moment but do not cling to things as you will have to let go eventually.

The more you refuse to let go, the more painful it becomes.

Children grow up and start their own lives. The better you come to terms with that, the better your relationship will be with them.

Old people will die and as it is normal that we will miss them and grieve for them, it is important to remember them in a positive way, by being grateful for having known them and maybe by continuing their legacy or by living by and spreading their values.

Maybe you’ll think that all this is too philosophical, too far-fetched when all we were talking about was that fall is a beautiful season. But just take a look at how difficult it is to let go of stuff, of thoughts, of negative feelings, …. of the impact situations have on you.

To make it easier on yourself, it’s a good idea to start looking at things from a larger perspective.

We’re only passing by here on earth, so why worry about how much stuff we’re able to gather in a lifetime and to do what with exactly? Take it with us when we die?

Why keep on replaying all those thoughts over and over in our head? To what purpose? To stay stuck? To keep worrying? Look at your thoughts, shift through them, keep what is useful and discard the rest. You thought them, considered them ‘not helping’, and so out with them. No use filling your head with them anymore. The sooner you learn to let go of what you do not need anymore, the sooner you’ll create space to think positive, creative, useful, happy, grateful thoughts.

As your thoughts determine how you’re feeling. The sooner you learn how to make room for positive thoughts, the sooner you’ll learn how to switch from feeling negative feelings to feeling positive ones.

Letting go is one the most important skills you should learn if you want to live a happy and content life.

Holding on against the natural flow of life is only going to cause you pain.

Start seeing yourself as part of huge Universe, start feeling everyone and everything belongs here, start accepting that ‘life is change and change is life’.

Know it’s okay to let go, know that by letting go, you let go of trying to control. Trying to control things makes you a hostage of the outcome.

Let go of the outcome. Know your direction, know what feels good for you and keep moving that way. The freer you move around, the more beauty you’ll see, the more opportunities you’ll see, the more relaxed you’ll feel.

Enjoy every phase of life, be grateful for all that you’ve experienced in life, know that you are part of this wonderful Oneness, trust that all is well and as it is supposed to be.

‘Everything is exactly on track…You always get what you need…. ‘ as Meredith Cameron says in her meditation ‘Trust’ on Insight Timer. Trust to let go, learn to surrender, learn to know it’s okay to loosen the grip. It’s okay, all is well, you are okay.
