One storm, and the trees will let them go.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">It all feels so natural,<\/span> <\/strong>a little sad maybe, but still, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">we accept this season<\/span><\/strong>. A feeling of melancholy often creeps up on me, but again, it is the way it is and always will be.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">After summer comes fall and nature prepares for winter, for rest, for healing, to rebirth again in spring.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">why do the stages of life feel so hard on a personal level?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Why do we have so much trouble accepting the next stage in life?<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all normal, it\u2019s all natural and still, it hurts so much to let go of the old season, of this phase in life.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Are we afraid of the unknown?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Are we afraid of losing who (we think) we are?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Why don\u2019t we rephrase this fear and think of it as opportunities?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What if we can see the season to come as a new adventure?<\/p>\n<p>What if we could see the advantages of letting go the previous season in life? Less responsibilities, less stress, less running around, less having to prove ourselves\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">We can accept all that we feel and then choose to let those feelings rest and create new ones.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is how I try to perceive the empty nest and try to make peace with it.<\/p>\n<p>I sometimes feel sad, feel useless, feel lonely, \u2026 but at the end of the day, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">we<\/span> <\/strong>choose how we want to feel.<\/p>\n<p>So, I have decided to feel happy, to feel content, to feel useful, to feel as if I get to choose how I go through life from now on.<\/p>\n<p>We, as parents, will always be around for our children, we will always support them, but it\u2019s on another level from now on. It\u2019s not about the day-to-day struggles and hassles anymore, which in return gives us more freedom and space.<\/p>\n<p>And that freedom and space is there to be filled with what makes us feel content, with what makes us grow into our next season in life.<\/p>\n<p>Every time I feel sadness coming up, I picture all that I have time for now, which I did not have when they were younger.<\/p>\n<p>And that is how I think one should navigate life and all seasons in life.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Every phase has its advantages and disadvantages.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If we <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">learn to see the beauty of every different stage in our lives,<\/span><\/strong> we can always make ourselves feel happy and content.<\/p>\n<p>As I have written many, many times before, we choose how we feel by steering our thoughts in the direction needed in order to be able to see the good in every situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Steering our thoughts in the direction of being grateful is always a sure path to happiness.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even though there are times that life seems hard, there is always something, no matter how small, that we can feel grateful for.<\/p>\n<p>And then there are other times when it is easy to see the good and feel grateful.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Life is always in motion.<\/span><\/strong> All things are moving in wave-like motions, up and down.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing this makes it easier to accept the down parts, because you know, after every down-movement, comes an upward movement.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">\u201cThis too shall pass\u201d, works for everything in life. Good and bad.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Knowing this, reassures us, that nothing is permanent, and that there is always new and good stuff ahead.<\/p>\n<p>My invitation to you all this week is:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em>Practice<\/em> <em>steering* your thoughts<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em>Practice<\/em> <em>your belief<\/em> that, there is always good things coming your way again, even after what feels like misfortune.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em>Practice gratitude<\/em> for what you have.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The following saying by Augustinus van Hippo** is a really good reminder for this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>\u201cHappiness is to keep on longing for what you already have\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em>Belief<\/em> <em>that you are the one responsible<\/em> for how you feel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><em>Know<\/em> <em>what you want<\/em> and then do everything to make it happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">And <em>never forget to enjoy<\/em> the present moment,<\/span> even though it might not feel perfect, it\u2019s a moment that will never return, so make the most of it.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you all for reading me, and for supporting me on Medium.
