Not everyone comes out of hard times a stronger person. This elaboration just as an explanation for my choice of words.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s come back to the quote of Maya Angelou.<\/p>\n<p>It is true that, when we sail through life, without hitting hard times, <span style=\"color: #008080;\">without serious setbacks, we do not really know who we are and what we\u2019re capable of.<\/span> We may think we will be able to find the strength to get back up after being knocked down, but we aren\u2019t really sure until we live it. Or vice versa, we might think we would never be able to recover from a tragedy, and still come out a stronger, wiser and more compassionate person after we&rsquo;ve been through one.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">That is why I believe it is important, to already have the tools to deal with hardship, to already learn coping techniques, so that we will be able to face, and recover from, rough patches on our path.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Being aware of the fact that life will throw us a curveball<\/span>, we just do not know when,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">knowing that grief and pain are a natural part of life,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">being willing to face hardship<\/span> when it comes our way, <span style=\"color: #008080;\">and consciously choosing our reaction<\/span> in every situation,<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">are essentials to take the first steps into the coping process.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whenever we encounter seriously painful situations, it is important to realize, and accept, the fact that you have to go <em>through<\/em> the process, that you have to live <em>through<\/em> your emotions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>You don\u2019t get <em>over<\/em> your emotions, <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>you have to <em>live through<\/em> them.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>That is the only healthy way to recover.<\/p>\n<p>Staying in denial, compensating your emotions with any kind of \u2018short-term-satisfaction\u2019, or numbing, behavior, will only result in illness, in getting stuck, in more pain. Even physical pain or illness can be, and mostly is, a result of emotions that remain undealt with.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">My invitation to you all this week is:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Accept<\/span><\/strong> that hard times will come.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Prepare for it<\/span> <\/strong>by learning about coping mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>Prepare yourself by <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">learning how to become still in the midst of chaos.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Learn how <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">breathing exercises can calm down your nervus system.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Know that you can detach yourself from telling the story over and over again<\/span><\/strong>. And this detachment will bring you to the next level of dealing with it. You\u2019ll see more clearly, and you\u2019ll realize you have options.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Once you know you are equipped to face hard times, you will have more faith in your abilities to recover<\/span>, once those painful situations do occur.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Developing these mechanisms will make you more equipped<\/span> to face all parts of life.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">You will feel stronger and more at ease<\/span>, even though you know you will get knocked down from time to time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">You now are more confident<\/span> that, when it happens, you will be able to fall back on what you\u2019ve learned, on what you\u2019ve trained yourself to do.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Every time you have gotten back up again, you will have strengthened your belief in yourself, in your ability to choose how you will face, and react to, difficult times.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The older we get, the more we will have had opportunities to grow, to learn how to get back up again.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Pain, grief, \u2026 is not something we look forward to, but it happens, and when we can see it as an opportunity to learn, we\u2019ll cope better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">As hardship is inevitable, the best thing we can do, is to use these difficult situations, to become wiser, to become better able to live through our emotions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">That\u2019s when you\u2019ll know:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">who you really are,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">what you\u2019re capable of,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">how to deal with setbacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">It makes you realize you always have a choice in how you deal with life. And when you choose to prepare, to become a mindful person now, to already train yourself in dealing with emotions, big and small, \u2026 you are giving yourself a head start, for when the really hard stuff happens.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you all for reading me, and for supporting me on Medium!
