src=\"https:\/\/lifecoachwomen.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/your-heart-knows-300x272.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"403\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I would like to start with this quote from Blaise Pascal:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>\u201cAll of humanity\u2019s problems stem <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>from man\u2019s inability <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>to sit quietly in a room alone.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Most of us:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>are afraid of silence.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>can\u2019t be by themselves, spend time alone, anymore.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>can\u2019t rest, do nothing, sit and just be, anymore.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>can\u2019t focus anymore,<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>are overstimulated.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>are overwhelmed.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>are tired to the bone.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">And still, \u2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">We don\u2019t stop, we don\u2019t rest, we go on and on.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What will it take to finally realize,<\/p>\n<p>we need rest,<\/p>\n<p>we need peace of mind,<\/p>\n<p>we need stillness,<\/p>\n<p>we need to stop \u2018doing\u2019 all the time.<\/p>\n<p>Even when<\/p>\n<p>we get sick,<\/p>\n<p>we get burned out,<\/p>\n<p>we get irritated and frustrated,<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">we never really look for the cause of it all.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">And it\u2019s there, right in front of our noses, it\u2019s all too much!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We own too much, we do too much, there is too much noise, around us and in our heads, there is too much input, too much stimuli.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">We are always \u2018ON\u2019, never \u2018OFF\u2019.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have been writing about <span style=\"color: #008080;\">working towards \u2018being more\u2019<\/span> instead of \u2018doing more\u2019, about the importance of silence, \u2026 for some time now, and I still believe this to be <span style=\"color: #008080;\">absolutely essential for our health, for our happiness, for our well-being, and ultimately for a better world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you know that, on a daily basis:<\/p>\n<p>the average time spent on social media is 2 hours 24 minutes,<\/p>\n<p>the average time spent watching television is 5 hours,<\/p>\n<p>and that we check our phones at least about 144 times per day.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Does it seem odd to you then,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">that you have no time left for meaningful things?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">that you can\u2019t find inner peace?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">that you feel overwhelmed?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">that it all feels as too much?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>I think it is mind blowing how much time we waste per day with focusing on rubbish, with focusing on gossip, and on all other meaningless stuff.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We all go on and on about the fact that we do not have enough time for our hobbies, for our family and friends, to practice sports, to learn new skills, \u2026.<\/p>\n<p>But be honest with yourself, and look at <span style=\"color: #008080;\">how you <strong>actually<\/strong> spend your day.<\/span> We all have 24 hours and it is up to us to fill them with what we choose to do.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Put all that you did per day, for a whole week, on paper and be brutally honest. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be flabbergasted by the amount of wasteful and futile activities there will be appearing on your paper.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Change this now.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Take back control over your activities, over your life.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I refer to my article* about morning routines, and urge you all to <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">start taking slow mornings.<\/span> <\/strong>Yes, yes, I hear you, you are already running late every morning as it is. I don\u2019t mean that you need to spend hours of meditating, or walking outside, or doing yoga, no.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you can if you feel like it, please do, but for everybody who is rushing through their mornings, I ask you to just <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">try this more peaceful start of your day.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All I need you to do is:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Be mindful when you wake up.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Say \u2018Thank you\u2019 for this new day.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Take a few deep breaths.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Stretch before you get out of bed<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This takes no more than a few minutes and will give you more energy and will take less time, than hitting the snooze button\u2026.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Enjoy your shower<\/em><\/span>, do not start thinking ahead yet, just let the water flow over your body and relax. This will take no extra time out of your schedule.<\/p>\n<p>For anyone with children, these are all things you can do before they wake up. I always made sure I started the day before everyone else was awake. That way, you get your slow start, and you are ready to face all that is coming your way the moment they are awake.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Have breakfast, or drink a cup of coffee or tea without checking your phone or listening to the news.<\/em><\/span> Listen to the quiet, to some classical music, or to some spiritual and inspiring text**. Again, you need no extra time for this.<\/p>\n<p>I realize that with a whole family present at the breakfast table, this might be challenging, but not listening to the news and not checking your phone will benefit everyone. You\u2019ll notice that, with less distractions, you will actually see each other, there will be room for conversation. Or room for silence when you have teenagers at the table. \ud83d\ude42 This more peaceful start of the day will benefit them too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>When you go off to work, try an inspiring podcast or some classical music<\/em>,<\/span> instead of being hit by all the fear-inducing and disaster-pregnant news on your way to work. Again, no extra time needed.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice that, <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">when you intentionally start the day,<\/span><\/strong> instead of letting yourself be sucked in, in other people\u2019s agenda\u2019s, <strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">you\u2018ll feel more calmness, more in control, and more ready than ever, to start your day.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because of your calm and not overstimulated mind, you\u2019ll be able to focus better, to see solutions, to be more tolerant.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>All this without needing extra time in your full schedule.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Then there is this <span style=\"color: #008080;\">next, important, step<\/span> I advise you all to take.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Define what matters<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Instead of jumping in, head first, into anything that you think you need to do, consider first:<\/p>\n<p>Is it urgent?<\/p>\n<p>Is it necessary?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Be very aware <strong>of what<\/strong> you do, <strong>and why<\/strong> you\u2019re doing it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Make sure it\u2019s really helping you moving towards what you want to realize. Make sure you know why your day is filled with what is on your agenda.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">When you\u2019re writing down what you did today, be critical and define what was what. No judgement, just be honest and willing to change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Notice the difference between what was useful, what was necessary and what was not. Then take steps to change what is on your schedule.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Make sure there is enough room for quiet time, for resting.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Know the difference between distractions and rest.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">When you feel tired, make sure you rest, and not fill your mind with stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Not working is not the same as resting.<\/p>\n<p>Scrolling on your phone is input, not resting.<\/p>\n<p>Watching television is not resting. I do agree that watching a nature documentary is more relaxing than watching a nail-biting thriller but it is still input.<\/p>\n<p>Reading a book, going for a walk with your dog, \u2026 is more relaxing than all the \u201cscreen stuff\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be afraid of silence.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be afraid of doing nothing.<\/p>\n<p>I hereby refer to another one of my articles*** about having an evening ritual, and to my latest**** one about how to steer your mind the last minutes before you go to bed.<\/p>\n<p>You do not need more time, we all have 24 hours, not more, not less.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">You need to spend your time more mindful.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The more you learn to feel comfortable not \u2018doing\u2019 all the time,<\/p>\n<p>the more you\u2019ll enjoy silence, and the less you\u2019ll feel that you don\u2019t have enough time.<\/p>\n<p>Try it out for a couple of weeks and notice the difference.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Notice the calmness that will come over you.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Notice the compassion and love you will start to feel.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Notice how you will feel happy without any specific reason.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Notice how easy you will be able to feel grateful.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Notice how you\u2019ll feel less and less FOMO.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And that is what I wish for all of you: a quiet, peaceful mind that will bring a feeling of contentment and happiness to you.<\/p>\n<p>Practice this, and you\u2019ll feel stress ebbing away, you\u2019ll feel your health improving, you\u2019ll sleep better, you\u2019ll be better rested in the morning. In short, you\u2019ll feel great.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Enjoy creating your new routines, your new life.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you all for reading me, and for supporting me on Medium.
